Archaeologists have found earthen panels elsewhere in Africa, but only at Dahomey did the bas-reliefs permit storytellers to speak with a visual language. This bas-relief depicts a chameleon standing over a goubassa, symbolizing King Akaba's ascension to the throne at an advanced age. The story recounts: "The chameleon walks slowly, but cannot go far, and he will never break even the finest branch he walks on." 2 of 7
