A team of ancient artisans created this wall painting. Stonecutters hewed the limestone burial chamber. Masons covered its walls with plaster. An apprentice and a master painter sketched each figure. A sculptor carved the sketch in bas-relief. And, another artist painted the figure.

Before conservators from Getty Conservation Institute and the Egyptian Antiquities Organization arrived in 1986, one-fifth of the wall paintings deteriorated. Over the years, sodium chloride penetrated the plaster and the limestone causing the paint to erode from the surface and the plaster to slough from the limestone.
